As part of the July 15 Democracy and National Unity Day Commemoration Events, the panel titled “The Name of Victory is Turkey” was held at the Ahmet Yesevi Conference Hall.
The panel, organized on the occasion of the 9th anniversary of the treacherous coup attempt, began with a moment of silence followed by the Turkish National Anthem. After a recitation from the Holy Qur`an by Uluyazı Mosque Imam Ömer Osman Çoban, the program continued with a speech by Rector Prof. Dr. Mevlüt Karataş.
Rector Karataş began his speech by saying, “During the July 15 coup attempt, 252 of our brothers and sisters were honored with martyrdom. I pray for mercy for our martyrs, who are regarded as soldiers fallen for this land, and extend my condolences to their families.” He emphasized that the Turkish people, standing unarmed against tanks, helicopters, jets, and weapons, wrote an epic of bravery with the strength drawn from the faith in their hearts.
Highlighting that universities are institutions responsible for raising individuals with a strong sense of social responsibility and historical awareness, Karataş underlined that Çankırı Karatekin University would continue to contribute both to a correct understanding of the past and to the building of a more resilient and conscious society. He stated that they would support efforts to ensure that July 15 is never forgotten and that future generations are made aware of it, adding that Çankırı Karatekin University continues its vigil for democracy.
During the emotional video screening on the July 15 coup attempt that followed, many attendees were visibly moved to tears.
After the screening, the panel continued under the moderation of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Şahin Doğan from the Department of Sociology. Presentations were delivered by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mehmet Şah Özcan and Dr. Lecturer Hakkı Kalaycı.
The event concluded with Rector Prof. Dr. Mevlüt Karataş presenting certificates of appreciation to the panelists and a group photo session.
